An Autumn Walk

The trail led through the woods, the forest floor is carpeted with the red leaves of small woodland plants.PA306827

Three small wooden bridges cross low areas.  Watch out for the troll!

I think I found where the troll lives.

The marsh at the edge of the woods is alive with geese, taking flight as they prepare to move south for the winter.

Turning back to return home, the path again leads into the woods.  A lonely birch adds contrast to the otherwise gray landscape.

And small openings in the trees make one wonder what magical creatures may live there.

Thanks for joining me on my walk.  I certainly enjoyed it, and I hope you did too.

A Fungus Among us

Here are a few pictures of mushrooms I have taken over the years.   Nothing special really, just some interesting looking specimens.  I have not been able to get out to take any pictures recently, so I thought I would hit the archives.

Chippewa Nature Center

I finally managed to get out for a safari this morning.  I went to Midland, Michigan, to the Chippewa Nature Center.  I have never been there before, but it is wonderful wooded area, with lots of wetlands, rivers, and history.

As you can see, it was a very misty, cool morning.  The mists were rising off of the Chippewa River.

This little chickadee did not mind my presence at all.

The geese are preparing to migrate.  This group flew right overhead.

This one lone red leaf looked lonely, so I had to take its picture.

HE’S BACK!!!!!!  This chipmunk is stalking me!!!  I see him every time I go out into the woods.  Well, this time I got his mugshot.

It has been too long since I got out into the woods.  Thanks for visiting, and thanks for letting me share my pictures.

Halloween at the Campground

This last weekend we went camping at the Saginaw Bay Resort campground in Standish, Michigan.  Although it is only early October, they celebrated Halloween this weekend.  There were wonderfully decorated campsites, and magnificent fall colors.  We handed out candy to the trick or treaters, and after only 20 minutes learned that 300 pieces of candy was not nearly enough.

Here are a few pictures from our weekend.

These folks really go all out for Halloween.

Even Shelby got dressed up.  The costume is strangely appropriate.

Did someone mention fall foliage?

Bay Concert Band Last Blast of Summer

Today the Bay Concert Band put on a small, all Sousa concert at Bay City’s Waterfall Park, to commemorate the end of summer.  Although only about a third of the band were able to attend, they sounded great, and put on a very entertaining show.

Director Leo Najar conducts the first number.
