I AM BACK FOR MORE

Well, my term of service in the Bay Central High School Band Boosters is over.  My youngest son has graduated.  I spent two years as President, and four years of acting as the official, unofficial Band Photographer.

What this means is that finally, I have time to take pictures for myself.  And to celebrate here are a few new shots that I have taken recently, on our vacation to the cottage in Hale, MI.

First is this cute little bird that liked to perch in the big oak tree in front of the cottage.

He was sitting with a friend at first, but he (or she) did not want to stick around to get his (her) picture taken.

We did some walking and hiking, and I found this butterfly sitting on a sunlit leaf…

And this goldfinch, who sat long enough to pose for me.

This dragonfly also cooperated.

And finally, tradition dictates that I end with a sunset image over the lake.

Well, that is it for now.  I know it has been two years since I last posted.  I am hoping I can stay more active here now.  We will see.  Life has a habit of throwing the unexpected our way.  But maybe I can get out and play with the camera a bit more often.

Thanks for visiting!

A Few Just For Fun

I went out over the weekend and got some pictures of….that’s right!  Birds!!!!  Imagine that.  I guess I have something of a thing about birds.  Anyway, here are a few shots.

I never realized how colorful a grackle really is.

The egrets are back!

I love this one of some ducks in flight.

And finally, just to prove that I do take pictures of things other than birds, here is the path to the bay I was walking on.  I decide to experiment a bit and do it in black and white.

Signs of Spring

After a long, cold winter, spring is finally returning to the Saginaw Bay region.  This past weekend I slipped out to one of my favorite wildlife areas, and captured a few pics.  The birds were pretty shy, so I had to zoom in a lot.  Some of the pics are not as clear as I would have liked, but hey, after this last winter I will take what I can get!

I think this guy may be a song sparrow, but they do all tend to look alike after a while.  I will classify this as a LBB (Little Brown Bird)

This pair of Canada geese are wondering why the water is so hard…and cold.

Speaking of cold water, I thought this little patch of ice was neat.

I was thrilled to hear, and finally see, some sandhill cranes.  They never landed in a spot near enough for me to take a picture on the ground, but I did manage to get a couple in flight.

And finally, one of my favorite signs of spring, the red wing blackbird.
