Michigan’s “Meerkat”

Here is another view of our friend the “meerkat”. Yep, a ground squirrel.

Meerkats in Michigan??

I never knew that meerkats were found in Michigan.  I thought they were only found in Africa.

Ok, it is actually a 13 stripe ground squirrel.  But it sure does look like a meerkat!  (Timon and Pumba…….)

Nature walk

Wendy and I returned to Golsen Nature Park today, to see if our neighborhood eagle was around.  He (or she) did soar overhead, then flew around to land near its nest.  I was able to quickly snap one picture.  Not to clear, but it was all I could get.

As we walked the trail, Wendy’s sharp eyes spotted another creature.  While I was looking up, searching for birds, she glanced down just in time to see this small garter snake.

Cranes and Geese

From the archives…. I took these pics about a year ago, in East Lansing, MI.  A pair of Sandhill Cranes, and a family of geese, were sharing a bit of wetland on the MSU campus.

This last weekend I was out for my weekly photo safari, and came across seagulls flying low over the water.  I managed to shoot a few pics of the birds in flight.  They are not real sharp, but I like them anyway.
